Christians from other places settled down here from 1503 onwards. Portuguese had mined iron ore from here. Some of the Catholics who fled from Cochin during the Dutch persecution found their way to Kannanallore. This was a part of Tope Parish in the beginning. It was erected as a separate parish in 1875. The present church was built under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Paul Cruz and was blessed on May 8, 1983.
