The Christians of this parish were immigrant fishermen from Chennithala. There were Dalit converts too. When Fr. Charles was the parish priest of Valiyaperumpuzha a shed was erected here and Sunday Mass was offered. The diocese also bought a school run by the Ezhava community of the locality.
